Securing this key agreement would be Liverpool’s most important deal in years – Agreed?

Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after watching their team thump West Ham 4-1 at Anfield on Saturday to remain in good position to seal a top four place in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their encounter with the East London outfit off the back of battering Porto 5-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie last week, thus all but sealing their spot in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition. And the Reds look on course for qualifying for next season’s competition as well as goals from Emre Can, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane secured a comprehensive win for the Merseyside giants on Saturday, which did move them up to second place in the Premier League table before Manchester United edged Chelsea on Sunday to reclaim that position.

Nevertheless, there have been several buoyant Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, many of whom are hoping their side’s incredible recent run, which has seen them lose just one of their last 19 league games, can continue for the rest of the season to thus confirm a top four finish.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Reds fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that negotiations are underway between the club and Roberto Firmino over a new contract.

And while the Merseyside giants have made some big decisions in recent years, securing an agreement with the 26-year-old would arguably be their biggest in a while.

And that’s because the Brazil international epitomises exactly what Klopp and his philosophy is about, and his form this season suggests that he is an indispensable part of the team.

Ultimately, if there was one player who represented what the Liverpool boss was all about, it would be Firmino, whose relentless energy and staggering work-rate helps the Reds press high from the front – he just keeps going and doesn’t give the opposition any time on the ball whatsoever.

But that is not all that the 26-year-old is about, he also brings genuine quality to the Liverpool frontline, underlined by his remarkable tally of 22 goals and 12 assists in just 38 appearances for the Reds this term, tallies already higher than his efforts last season.

And while there were some concerns among our resident Liverpool fans about whether Firmino could continue to produce the goods following the departure of compatriot Philippe Coutinho in January, the Reds frontman has categorically quashed those doubts – if anything, he is getting better.

More importantly though, Firmino is an integral part of this Liverpool team, as the forward options behind him aren’t currently in the same league as the Brazilian in terms of quality and performance.

Were the 26-year-old to get injured, Klopp would have to call upon the likes of Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings – both of whom are useful players and have done reasonably well at this level, but they do not bring anywhere near as much to the team as Firmino does.

And when he is in the form that he is in and as confident in his game as he shows, the 26-year-old is slowly but surely becoming the most integral player in Klopp’s team, arguably even more so than the sensational Salah.

And given his absolute importance to Klopp, his philosophy, and thus this Liverpool side, securing an agreement with Firmino over a new deal would be one of the more important decisions made by the Merseysiders in many a year.
