Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been appalled more than ever this season by their team’s goalkeeping situation. The Reds have been reliant on their attackers to outscore the opposition but failing this, more often than not Liverpool have struggled to win the game.
Simon Mignolet, valued at £10.80 million on Transfermarkt, has proven to be Liverpool’s most unreliable player this season, with the amount of goals he has conceded as well as the mistakes he’s made. The 30-year-old has been at Anfield ever since 2013 and his time with the Reds started well. On his debut for the club, Mignolet saved a penalty as Liverpool went on to win the game 1-0 against Stoke.
Loris Karius has since turned his doubters into believers in his ability and the young German may have just secured Mignolet’s fate. Liverpool have been long searching for a goalkeeper to come into Anfield and replace either of the two goalkeepers. After Mignolet’s 19 Premier League appearances this season however, his time may be over at Anfield.
Liverpool still have a lot to fight for this season, with the tension and competition building for the top four as well as eyeing Champions League success, having brushed aside Porto in the round of 16. To ensure success occurs next season, it is pivotal that Liverpool eye a top goalkeeper to limit the amount of goals flying in. With their attackers performing phenomenally well this season, if Liverpool can adjust their defensive issues ahead of next season then the Reds could have a real chance at success come the end of the 2018/19 season.
