Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team batter Watford 5-0 at Anfield on Saturday to move up to third place in the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s men were the only side in the top eight of the English top-flight in league action over the weekend due to FA Cup commitments, and they made it count by putting further distance between themselves and fifth place Chelsea with a dominant victory over the Hornets. Four goals from Mohamed Salah, a tally which took him clear at the top of the goal-scoring standings, alongside a Roberto Firmino strike secured a comprehensive success for the Merseyside giants, who moved above Tottenham into third place in the table, seven points clear of Chelsea in fifth.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Mediaset Premium (via talkSPORT), which details a significant update in their reported pursuit of Roma goalkeeper Alisson.
The 25-year-old made the move to the Italian giants back in 2016 and has since kept 21 clean sheets and conceded just 50 goals in 52 appearances for the club, 17 clean sheets of which coming this term in their run to third place in Serie A, and the last eight of the Champions League.
And the Brazil international has reportedly attracted the attention of Klopp’s Liverpool in recent times, who reportedly made an enquiry regarding the shot-stopper during the January window, and as such are reportedly expected to go after him in the summer.
However, the club’s sporting director Monchi has given an update on the future of Alisson, in which he admitted that no bids had been made for the 25-year-old, and that the man himself isn’t eyeing up an exit this summer.
He said: ‘We are not afraid of losing Alisson. He is happy to be here with us and we are happy with him. What you read in the papers isn’t always true.
‘We don’t know of any offer and certainly haven’t received any proposal.’
And this significant update is likely to intrigue our resident Liverpool fans, many of whom remain keen on their club landing a goalkeeper despite Loris Karius’ recent upturn in form.
Landlord’s verdict: Liverpool’s goalkeeping woes have been well documented for a while now, and despite Loris Karius’ recent good form between the sticks for Jurgen Klopp’s side, a key deal for a new shot-stopper could well be in the offing in the summer.
However, Roma sporting director Monchi has given an update on the future of their goalkeeper Alisson, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, with that the Reds reportedly making an enquiry during the January window.
Yet Monchi has suggested that no offers have come in for the Brazil international and that he himself isn’t seeking an exit this summer, in news which is likely to intrigue and perhaps frustrate Liverpool fans, with it likely to be very difficult indeed to prize Alisson away from Rome this summer.
