Liverpool maintained their unbeaten record in the Premier League thanks to a late Daniel Sturridge wonder goal against Chelsea.

The Reds had won all six of their opening fixtures to cruise to the top of the Premier League table but were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Maurizio Sarri’s men in mid-week. Both managers made plenty of changes for the meeting in the league and Jurgen Klopp was made to rue missed chances with Eden Hazard opening the scoring. Liverpool should have been level but couldn’t beat Kepa Arrizabalaga until Sturridge curled a wonderful effort from long range to hand his side a point.

Attention now switches to the Champions League with a trip to Napoli scheduled before welcoming Manchester City to Anfield. As well as preparation for their fixtures, Klopp should be keeping a close eye on developments at Arsenal. Reports suggest that Aaron Ramsey will not be offered a new contract at the club and Liverpool should aim to bring him to Merseyside.

Valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, the Welshman was a shining light for the Gunners in a poor season. He was expected to play a key part in Unai Emery’s rebuilding of the club, but Arsenal are unwilling to promote him to one of their highest earners. Instead, he is expected to leave for nothing.

Ramsey could follow in the footsteps of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who joined the Reds last summer and was reinvigorated after working with Klopp. With Adam Lallana struggling for form and fitness, Ramsey could be the perfect replacement. The 27-year-old is a dynamic midfielder who would slot seamlessly into the Liverpool engine room and offer another valuable option in the centre.

If his wage demands were reasonable; this should be a no-brainer.
