Some much needed steel: The 6ft 2in star Liverpool must sign to bolster their XI

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting their club to do some serious business in the summer once the transfer window opens.

By some way, the Reds’ squad is the smallest compared to the top six and that has certainly been part of the reason as to why the club’s title challenge fizzled out over the festive period.

Even so, the club can still get into the Champions League if they win all their remaining games and from there they’ll be able to sign some of the best players about.

Who they actually bring in remains to be seen, of course, but there is a strong case to suggest that Leon Goretzka from Schalke should be a part of the recruitment drive.

Indeed, for all the Reds’ talent they still lack some physical power and steel in midfield and that is surely something they need to add come the window.

Goretzka, then, would add that at 6ft 2in but alongside that he is also a Klopp-type player. He can get about the pitch with ease despite his larger frame and he certainly knows how to create attacking moments.

He has eight goals and five assists this season from the centre of the park and that would see him right up there with the rest of the club’s midfielders in terms of goal contribution.

And, with him in his early 20’s, he fits the FSG profile when it comes to signing players leaving a real feeling that if Liverpool did sign him, he’d surely be a success.
