According to Sport, Liverpool are ready to do battle with Real Madrid to sign Lille’s Boubakary Soumare.
The current suspension of the Premier League due to the worldwide pandemic has thrown the upcoming transfer window up in the air, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation surrounding potential arrivals at the biggest clubs in the country.
As per the Spanish outlet, the Reds are eyeing the Lille midfielder. They are not the only side interested in his services, though – Real Madrid are also mentioned, whilst Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle have all been linked.
It has been a fantastic campaign for Liverpool so far this term, and the players and the fans will be ruing the fact that they were just two wins away from confirming their status as champions prior to the pause in all professional competitions in the United Kingdom. Naby Keita, though, will have unlikely enjoyed how this season has panned out.
The Guinea international was a record signing for the club back in 2017, but since making the switch to Anfield a year later, he has failed to settle. All in all, he has made just 51 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, of which just 18 have come this campaign. Injuries haven’t helped his transition, but his arrival is now looking like a costly mistake.
There have even been rumours about him returning to former club RB Leipzig, and his switch would leave open a spot for another midfielder – perfect for the purchase of Soumare. The 21-year-old was the subject of a club-record bid from Newcastle during the January transfer window, but he decided against making the move.
He perhaps feels he can play at a higher level, and his performances this term indicate as much. The France U21 international has appeared in 30 games in all competitions so far this campaign, including all six Champions League fixtures, and at 21, he is one for the future. Sport even say Klopp “loves” the midfielder – he already has the approval of the boss.
In January, he was valued at €40m (£35.1m), but due to the current situation, that price could well decrease. His Transfermarkt value is currently at £24.3m. Anything around that price would represent a fantastic opportunity for a shrewd piece of business for Liverpool, who should look to press on and try and beat Real Madrid to his signature.
