Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will be pleased with how the season has gone under Jurgen Klopp and will be hoping to look ahead to a long and bright future with the club.
However, should the German boss move away from Anfield, with a number of admirers of his abilities, a former Reds coach has claimed that Steven Gerrard could become a top manager in the near future.
Pako Ayestaran has stated that he believes the Liverpool legend has all the qualities and attributes to succeed in the game and acknowledging the work he is doing with the Under-18s. Gerrard has been in charge of the developmental side since the start of the season and led them to an unbeaten run until February, making an impressive start to his career.
As you can imagine, the idea of seeing Gerrard follow the likes of Kenny Daglish and become a Liverpool boss after an amazing playing career has some of our resident Reds in absolute dreamland.
“At that time, we had many players that were, as I say, full-time professionals, and Stevie was one of them. He had all the football qualities but he had these personal values as well that made him get the best from his qualities,” Ayestaran told LFCTV.
“Now I don’t know him as a manager, but he has to try and put into practice the things he’s trying to learn [and] make mistakes because it’s the only way you can improve.
“Another thing I think is important once you leave your football career is you have to forget what it meant to be a football player and think as a manager.
“I think he is going through this process at the moment but he has all the qualities and attributes that, if he gets the best from this learning period, I am sure he can become a good manager in the future.”
Liverpool fans in the Tavern would love to see Gerrard at the helm of the Anfield club in the future and will be encouraged by the words from one of his former coaches. However, fans will still remain fairly happy with Klopp sticks around for a little longer.
Still, the idea of seeing their popular German coach hands the reigns over to Gerrard someday has certainly excited our local Liverpudlians, who would love to see their former skipper take the job one day.
