Nobody here at the Football Transfer Tavern would like to say football is a cynical sport, yet with the latest claim from the Daily Mail it certainly seems that way. Blackpool are set to appoint a new manager and it could well have a major effect on Liverpool.
The Seasiders are set to end their search for a new gaffer and appoint Paul Ince. Yes you heard it right – they are appointing the father of their star player. The winger, who has taken the Championship by storm this year harbours ambitions to play in the Premier League and we cannot help but think this is a clever way for the Tangerines to keep hold of the youngster for just a little bit longer.
Liverpool were of course tracking their former player and many expected him to pen a deal at the club in the transfer window just passed yet this was not to be and Tom stayed at the club. Now with his dad set to become the new manager, it does seem like he could be sticking around a little while longer – something that is a massive blow for Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool of course will try to land the exciting player again in the summer but not only do they face the task of trying to lure him away from his dad there is also the problem of interest from Reading and also from Aston Villa who could well try and offer not only cash but also Nathan Delfouneso to lure the England Under-21 international.
