Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side is going to finish the season strongly as the chase for Champions League football continues.
With just a handful of games to go now, the race for the top four really does look like it’ll be the main point of interest in the league as four clubs go for the two spots behind Chelsea and Tottenham.
Liverpool, then, have it in their hands at the moment and know that winning their remaining games will see them finish in the top four – ahead of what will then be a busy transfer window.
Indeed, many are expecting the club to sign a lot of players but there’s also going to be players let go to make way for the influx.
The likes of Alberto Moreno, Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva could all be on their way out but, for the latter at least, a rethink may be warranted.
The Brazilian midfielder is the longest serving member of playing staff at the club right now and in recent weeks has come to the rescue as the Reds’ thin squad has once again come under scrutiny.
For sure, he is not the most talented player at the club anymore and will not play when the whole squad is fit but he has proven himself a solid, dependable option when things get tough.
Indeed, with a potential Champions League campaign on the horizon next season, as the sole man from the days when the Reds were regulars in the competition, Lucas is the only man with the know-how to help the players manage a jam-packed fixture schedule.
Lucas, then, might just be extending his stay on Merseyside even further.
