This £25.2m-rated Chelsea outcast would be the perfect partner for van Dijk at Liverpool

Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been using the last few days to look back at their side’s impressive campaign so far, and indeed look forward to what success their team could have in the final few months of the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men secured a top four finish in the Premier League last term for the first time since 2014 to return to the Champions League, and they are currently embroiled in a quarter-final clash with league champions-elect Manchester City in a bid to reach the last four for the first time since 2008. And with the Reds very much on course for back-to-back top four finishes, given they are third in the Premier League table with six games to go, there is much optimism among our resident Liverpudlians ahead of the last few months of the campaign.

As such, there are many happy Liverpool supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are predicting big things for their side in the coming years under Klopp, even if they are unable to win a trophy this time round.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Reds fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that Chelsea’s David Luiz is one of several Blues stars whose future is far from certain heading into the summer transfer window.

And given that Liverpool are in need of further defensive reinforcements heading into the 2018/19 campaign, the £25.2 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) could be the perfect signing for the Reds this summer, and indeed the perfect partner for January signing Virgil van Dijk.

Ultimately, the Brazil international has seriously struggled for regular football under Antonio Conte this term, with a combination of injuries and indeed a lack of form restricting him to just nine Premier League starts thus far, his latest one coming back at the start of February.

However, it cannot be forgotten that the 30-year-old played a significant part in helping the Blues regain the Premier League title last season, with the centre-back proving to be a much-improved defender from the last time he graced English football, at the same revelling in the heart of Conte’s back three.

And his efforts last season simply cannot be dismissed despite his struggles this season, and in a Liverpool backline that has shipped more goals than any other side in the top five this term, he’d surely flourish.

Ragnar Klaven, Dejan Lovren, and Joel Matip have all unconvinced throughout their respective stints at Anfield, and if Liverpool are serious about challenging for major honours in the years to come, they need a much better option to partner van Dijk – Luiz could be that man.

Both are aerially solid and dominate many of the strongest attackers in the Premier League, but they are also very composed on the ball and are able to stride out of defence and help set-up and launch attacks – between the two of them, they have everything needed to strike a formidable partnership.

Thus, the Merseyside giants simply must seek to land the Chelsea outcast this summer, as he’d be the perfect partner for Netherlands international van Dijk.
