If Liverpool fans down in the Tavern were not convinced they needed to buy before, they surely will be now.
The Reds are reportedly closing in on a deal to sell their talisman Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. Last week, the 25-year-old submitted a transfer request which appears to have forced Liverpool’s hand. The club had previously rejected any advances for the forward.
It’s a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are aiming to retain their Champions League status this season.
Liverpool could still benefit from reinforcements at the back, but now it appears securing attacking options are just as critical.
One player who could be available this summer is Napoli’s star man Lorenzo Insigne. The Italian was superb in Serie A last season as Napoli finished third, just five points behind champions Juventus.
Valued at £31.50m by Transfermarkt, he scored 18 times and provided 9 assists for his teammates and the 26 year-old has established himself as one of the hottest players in Europe.
Funnily enough, Insigne has been touted as a replacement for Neymar after the Catalans sold the Brazilian to PSG for £198m last month.
Like Coutinho, he is a wonderful dribble and possesses an eye for a key pass. He is also not afraid to shoot from distance, so provides a palpable goal threat.
Reds fans, we want to hear from you! Would Insigne be your replacement for Coutinho? Let us know in the comments…
