The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling excited about the future of their club due to their side’s impressive form in recent weeks.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have stepped up a gear in recent months and slowly begun to establish themselves as one of the most devastating attacking teams in Europe. The Reds have certainly left it too late to mount a title challenge this season, but if they continue to perform in the same vein next season then it’s likely they will be able to go head-to-head with Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table.
The imminent arrival of Naby Keita will serve to enhance the expectations and the optimism of the supporters, and according to recent reports, the Guinea international could be joined by another midfielder with a beaming reputation. According to Transfermarktweb, Klopp wants to bring Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler to Anfield in the summer.
The same report claims that Draxler (valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt ) could be persuaded to leave Paris if he is not handed a more integral role in the first-team, but considering the level of quality within Unai Emery’s squad, it seems unlikely that the German international will see his opportunities increase dramatically in the near future.
With that being said, Liverpool should do everything they can to sign him this summer, as he would be both a perfect midfield partner for Naby Keita and an excellent back-up choice in wide positions to support Sadio Mane or Mo Salah. Klopp’s preference to play with three players in central-midfield means that places in these positions are often up for grabs at the club, and with Wijnaldum struggling to perform on a regular basis and Emre Can looking increasingly likely to depart the club this summer, that theme should continue into the next campaign.
However, as is often the way with new recruits, particularly expensive ones, Keita should enjoy plenty of first-team opportunities during the early weeks of the season, and his teammates will be attempting to establish a solid partnership with the Liverpool newbie. Although it’s too early to judge how well Keita would perform alongside Draxler in midfield, the prospect of seeing those two players together is certainly a mouth-watering one for the Liverpool supporters.
A midfield which saw Keita and Draxler playing alongside each other would undoubtedly require the presence of a more defensive-minded player to anchor the midfield whilst the aforementioned pairing ventured into the final-third. The play-making qualities both these players can bring to the table would certainly enable Liverpool to bridge the gulf in class between themselves and Manchester City next season, so they should do everything they can to lure Draxler away from PSG in the summer to provide Keita with a perfect midfield partner.Like what the TT have on offer?
