The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their side could make a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar in the January transfer window.
The Monaco fans, on the other hand, are fed up of transfer stories concerning their star players after waving goodbye to Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Kylian Mbappe already this summer. Monaco seem to be coping with their summer ransacking remarkably well in Ligue 1, as they sit in 2nd place just 4 points off leaders PSG after 12 matches.
Lemar has been an ever-present within the Monaco side when fit this season, and the continuation of his marvellous form from last season has generated interest from Liverpool as the Gunners drop their interest, according to The Mirror.
Rumours linking Lemar to Liverpool will be not only be giving Monaco plenty of cause for concern, but also Arsenal, who were pursuing Lemar throughout the recent summer transfer window.
With Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil looking increasingly destined to depart from the Gunners by the end of the season, serious questions are starting to emerge regarding the direction and future of the club.
Arsenal appear caught in a twilight zone between the Champions League and the Europa League, not quite good enough for the elite European competition and too proud for the step down in class.
Considering the clubs current rate of decline, the long-term prospects for Arsenal consistently finishing in the top-four are looking rather bleak.
If Arsenal do indeed lose Sanchez and Ozil by the end of the season, they will need to ensure they find a pair of seriously talented players to replace them – such as Lemar – to prevent the club from falling well behind their Premier League rivals.
Arsenal simply cannot afford another transfer window of missing out on their targets whilst their rivals continue to improve the calibre of their squad.
