Our Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern are conceding defeat in the Philippe Coutinho transfer saga.
Barcelona are reported to be coming in again with another bid for the Brazilian star in the winter window and while Liverpool stood firm in the last window rejecting four bids, our punters feel it’s only a matter of time before the move gets sanctioned. However, even though the Reds are backing down slowly they could still use Coutinho as a bargaining tool so there not left shortchanged in the deal.
If Coutinho makes the move to the Camp Nou, our barman states there’s one player that has already spoken out about his impending unhappiness at being edged out of first team proceedings. According to reports, Ivan Rakitic is said to not be too happy over potentially keeping the bench warm while the Brazilian jumps into his space on the pitch.
Due to this fact, Liverpool could offer the Croatian the first team minutes he craves and, in return, the Anfield club would get one hell of a player with vast experience alongside the ability to play in numerous positions. Surely if Klopp can pull this deal off, our Tavern regulars think it would be a very shrewd move on his part.
Though losing their brilliant Brazilian would obviously go down poorly on Merseyside, the idea of landing a midfielder such as the Croatia star really could add more balance to the Reds’ first-team.
In theory, it may be hard to see where Rakitic will fit into Klopp’s style of play but by taking Coutinho out of the picture, maybe it would force Klopp’s hand into a different style of setting up and playing. The Croatian is not shy at finding the back of the net, so with that in mind, our landlord believes it may be a good idea to start to build the team around the 30-year-old.
Liverpool fans, what are your thoughts on this?
