On the 19th July 2018, Liverpool announced the signing of Brazilian keeper Alisson for a then world-record fee of £66 million from AS Roma.
After a season where the Reds came runners up in the Champions League and asserted themselves as title challengers for the 2018/19 Premier League title after a brilliant showing in the second half of the previous campaign, Jurgen Klopp needed to reinforce areas of the pitch that needed intense improvements on.
And after a Champions League final where keeper Lorius Karius allowed two goals to go in through his errors, a new number one was a priority for Klopp. Alisson had been a reported target for Liverpool for some time, and after weeks of speculation, his astronomical release clause was met by the Reds, making the Brazilian international the most expensive keeper in football history until Chelsea broke it again a few weeks later for Kepa Azzriabalaga.
Here is how Liverpool fans reacted to the news…
What a signing. What a statement.

Since his arrival, Alisson has done what many fans expected him to bring to Liverpool, make them genuine title contenders for the first time since the 2013/14 season.
The 26-year-old keeper along with January signing Virgil van Dijk has made Liverpool the best team in the league defensively this season, something you never would have expected to see from the Merseyside team, but that’s just how good Alisson has been for Klopp’s side this campaign.
Alisson is currently leading in the race for the Premier League Golden Glove this season with 18, and the keeper is expected to break Pepe Reina’s record of 20, the highest number of clean sheets a Liverpool player has kept during a single season and four behind the all-time record of Petr Cech’s 24.
The impact Alisson has had defensively for Liverpool has put the Reds closer than ever to a Premier League title, with the club just two points ahead of Manchester City who have a game in hand and have yet to play the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United in the remaining five games.
Alisson’s transfer fee might have been overkill, but it is a deal that has worked out brilliantly for Liverpool this season and will likely be worth every penny in the long-term for the club.
