Liverpool could make a move for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey in the summer, that is according to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser (Empire of the Kop via Liverpool Echo).
They report that the midfielder has a £43m release cause in his contract and that the Reds are interested in activating it — and he could be exactly what Jurgen Klopp needs.
Fabinho has struggled in the Premier League of late, earning WhoScored ratings of 6.48 and 6.33 in his last two outings, whereas Thomas has been excelling in his domestic division. He won WhoScored‘s Man of the Match in a recent 2-1 win over Villarreal, winning four tackles during the encounter — the joint most in his team.
Furthermore, perhaps he could be a good alternative to Fabinho. And for £43m, Liverpool would be getting the Ghana international for a fair price, with Transfermarkt valuing him at £45m. It is quite the increase from his £22.5m valuation from the end of the 2017/18 season, though completely understandable.
How much is Thomas Partey worth?
£45m or more
Less than £45m
Thomas has really been performing in that engine room for some time now, with his display against the Reds in the first leg of his side’s last 16 Champions League tie providing evidence. On this occasion, he managed five tackles, more than any Liverpool player.
Ultimately, with concerns surrounding Fabinho’s form and constant injuries to Naby Keita, Thomas could provide Klopp with the midfield boost he needs. The German should be quick, though, with the Atletico Madrid man’s stock on the rise and understandably so.
