It is probably fair to say that Naby Keita has not quite lived up to the hype following his big-money move from RB Leipzig to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old has been battling various injuries since arriving at Anfield and his stock is now on the decline. According to Transfermarkt, having once been worth £58.5m (December 2018), he now has a market valuation of £37.8m.
It is quite the dip, but such a fall in valuation is hardly surprising. As already mentioned, Keita has had his injury problems, forcing him to miss out on matches time and again. Meanwhile, when fit, he has not exactly been the first name on Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet.
Despite still being a part of 18 Premier League matchday squads this season, the midfielder has only managed to start four games. He has been substituted in on five occasions and left on the bench the other nine times, so he is hardly Klopp’s go-to guy.
How much is Naby Keita worth?
£35m or more
Less than £35m
The above is not to say Keita is a terrible player. With an average of 1.2 dribbles per league game and a pass success rate of 88.9% (via WhoScored), the Guinea international ranks pretty highly in Liverpool’s squad when it comes to those areas, showing his technical quality.
However, given all of his injury problems, this is an experiment that simply has not worked out. Furthermore, perhaps it is time for the Reds to move on, even if they are forced to take a financial loss as Keita’s transfer valuation continues to plummet.
