It’s been a summer to forget for the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern thus far.
While the arrivals of Mo Salah and Dominic Solanke had impressed our resident Reds, the failed pursuits for the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita have concerned our local Kopites.
To make matters worse, star man Philippe Coutinho has strongly been linked with an exit as interest from Barcelona reportedly circles. Indeed, as if that wasn’t bad enough, reports from the Daily Express haven’t gone down well at all.
They claim in their transfer column (07:32) that Serie A giants Inter Milan are keen on signing Anfield star Sadio Mane. The Senegalese forward arrived at great expense from Southampton last summer, though proved a revelation on Merseyside.
His searing pace was a welcome asset as the club qualified for the Champions League again, so the thought of losing him already is hugely worrying. No fee is mentioned in the report, though the Nerazzurri are now backed by big investment of course.
A key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s wonderfully varied attack, our local Liverpool lot would loathe to lose the African forward.
While losing Coutinho would be worse, Liverpool can by no means sell Mane this summer. His injury last season showed how much the team miss his unique qualities and, with the club back in the Champions League, Klopp needs strength and depth to mount a serious assault on any silverware next term.
