Premier league fans, and Liverpool supporters in particular will remember Djimi Traore – some with anger, others with a smile.
The French full back will always be remembered in England for his high profile errors, including possibly one of the most comical own goals of all time – a back heel into his own net with knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup to Burnley in 2005.
But despite his comic gaffes, Traore left England the proud owner of a Champions League winners medal, having been – believe it or not – a key player for Liverpool in their 2005 triumph.
His most meaningful contribution coming when he cleared Andriy Shevchenko’s shot off the line with the scores tied at 3-3, therefore departing Anfield as something of a cult hero.
A few have described Traore as the ‘worst player to ever win the Champions League’ but this stunning strike for Seattle Sounders in the CONCACAF Champions League may go someway to silencing those voices.
We always saw a player in there somewhere Djimi!
