What’s that? Andriy Voronin could be leaving Liverpool? Some will say hooray, but it’s a bit late don’t you think? As with many of Rafael Benitez’s signings the Ukrainian hasn’t covered himself in glory.
After arriving on a free from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2007 he and his pony tail have failed to impress but he isn’t the sole reason for the frustration many Liverpool fans feel. It has been a running trend with Liverpool managers over the last ten years, huge amounts of money is spent with very little to show for it. Gerard Houllier brought in countless misfits and Rafa Benitez carried the trend on. Everyone seems to be blamed but the man who brings the players in. The owners are no saints but what have they done wrong? They brought us Fernando Torres the best signing Liverpool have made in decades.
The bickering that has gone on between the manager and owners seems to have been left in the past and there are signs the club is slowly moving forward. There’s no quick fix solution for Liverpool however there is still lots to play for this season. A bit of solidarity and reality is needed. The realisation that we are not good enough to win the title has finally sunk in – yes the top four finish is possible. After years at the top Liverpool are finding things a little hard. We are in a recession after all.
