‘Want this boy playing’, ‘Under utilised’ – Liverpool fans take to Twitter to urge player decision

The Liverpool fans in Transfer Tavern are still reeling from their crushing 4-1 defeat to Spurs at the weekend but news of young midfielder Marko Grujic’s all-conquering display for the club’s U23s on Monday night will help improve the mood on Merseyside.

The former Red Star Belgrade youngster has only played thirteen minutes of Premier League football in substitute appearances this year- including Sunday’s loss at Wembley- and is unlikely to break into Jurgen Klopp’s regular starting lineup anytime soon. The only time he has featured from the start came as the Reds were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Leicester City and that competition is perennially used by top clubs to field their fringe players so to exit prematurely has meant opportunities for Grujic and others- such as Dominic Solanke- are very limited.

And, as well as showcasing his vast array of technical skills, he demonstrated a commitment and a tenacity to overcome an illness in order to play in the contest which should enthuse the Anfield faithful. Perhaps the first-team could benefit from the 21-year-old’s determination amidst a poor run of form?

With that in mind, here’s how the Reds’ fans reacted to his performance online…
