What does the future hold for Ben Woodburn at Liverpool?

Liverpool managed to secure all three points in the Merseyside derby last weekend as they maintained their unbeaten start to the current Premier League campaign.

The Reds will have their sights set on securing at least one piece of silverware after missing out on Champions League glory last season. Jurgen Klopp’s side have looked rather unconvincing in Europe this season, so it looks as if any potential silverware will be secured domestically at this moment in time.

Although, the German boss may already be looking towards the summer transfer window, with one loanee in particular making headlines in the Championship. Harry Wilson has been the standout performer for Derby County this season, as well as scoring a wonder strike on international duty with Wales.

But, one Liverpool youngster that isn’t enjoying as much success at this moment in time is Ben Woodburn, who could be recalled from his difficult loan spell at Sheffield United. Indeed, the Wales international has only managed to feature in eight games in all competitions for the Blades, with the majority of these being substitute appearances.

Of course, with Wilson set to return to Liverpool once his loan spell expires at Derby County, you would have to say that he’s done enough to warrant a first-team place at Anfield. He has established himself as one of the rising stars in English football and a dead-ball specialist, with eight goals and two assists to his name.

Liverpool already have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Xherdan Shaqiri and Roberto Firmino in attacking areas and could look to strengthen even more in January. But, with Woodburn either returning from a loan spell in the summer or staying at Anfield from January onwards, it’s likely that he will be in and around the first-team ranks as Klopp is a big fan of the youngster.

Therefore, with the Reds potentially needing to clear space for Wilson’s return at the end of the season, Klopp has no choice but to offload Woodburn in the summer, either in the form of a loan deal or a permanent one.
