Up until now, Liverpool have had a very quiet transfer window this month indeed.
It’s been slightly unexpected, too, as with the Reds challenging for the title many felt that they’d invest in their squad during this window.
Whilst their first XI is as good as any in the league their squad is the weakest of all their title challengers and so to not bring players in during this month seems almost careless.
Jurgen Klopp, though, seems to know what he’s doing and despite The Daily Star linking the club with a move for Mahmoud Dahoud, it could be argued that not signing that player in particular could work out.
For sure, Dahoud is a talented player but there’s very good reasons why the Reds should focus their attentions elsewhere instead of on the Borussia Monchengladbach man.
What Liverpool need in central midfield – where Dahoud plays – right now are players that can either play as a genuine holding midfielder or a box-to-box dynamo that can score goals.
The young Dahoud, though, is neither.
He’s more of a passer of the ball and knits things together which, whilst in itself is no bad thing, is not something the Reds are pressed for needing with the likes of Jordan Henderson around.
Dahoud lacks the power to be a box-to-box player whilst he’d have to be shoe-horned into the defensive midfield role instead of owning it naturally as he prefers to play instead of break attacks up.
Make no mistake, once again, he is a talented footballer – but not the one Liverpool need right now.
