According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Internazionale have been interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Nerazzurri have clearly been keeping an eye on proceedings, with his valuation currently standing at over €30m (£26.3m) according to the report. However, it looks as though the Anfield outfit want to get him to commit to a new deal which would see him stay on Merseyside until 2024.
Wijnaldum has been an ever-present in this Reds XI following his switch from Newcastle in 2016. Since then, he has made 177 appearances in all competitions, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side reach two Champions League finals, one of which they won.
However, at 29, he is not getting any younger, and the 6.87 average WhoScored rating he has mustered this term is his second-worst since leaving the Magpies, and some of the fans have been unhappy with his performances this campaign.
Having cost £25m four years ago, there is every chance they could still make a profit, although minimal, if they engaged in more concrete talks with the San Siro club. With his current wage at £75,000, he is not costing them an absolute fortune, but Michael Edwards and co will need to refresh their squad at some point in the near future. Letting Wijnaldum move on could be the start of that – the Reds should reconsider their stance.
