As per Thursday’s print edition of SPORT (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are in negotiations with Chelsea’s Willian about a potential move to Anfield.
SPORT were actually talking about the future of former Liverpool player Philippe Coutinho, but mentioned the future of his compatriot further down in the article.
They say that the Anfield outfit have offered “very favourable conditions” to the 31-year-old.
It is surprising that Willian is not the most popular figure amongst Chelsea fans. The Brazil international has played 329 times for the Blues, scoring 59 goals and providing as many assists, and he is also a two-time Premier League champion, yet he is often slammed by the club’s supporters.
He is out of contract this summer, and would therefore be available on a free transfer. His wages are currently at £120,000 a week, so it would be interesting to see exactly how much the Merseyside club would be willing to offer him.
Would you like Willian at Liverpool?
Given his experience at the highest level, it would make sense for Michael Edwards and co to try and take him to Anfield. Just look at how James Milner, who was 29 at the time, has performed since moving from Manchester City – they have won the Champions League with him. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can convince him to move to Anfield.
