Liverpool maintained their excellent start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Reds dominated the possession, and their pressure resulted in Mohamed Salah being fouled by Mamadou Sakho in the box. James Milner slotted the penalty on the stroke of half-time. Youngster Aaron Wan-Bissaka was given his marching orders after bringing down Salah, and a late goal from Sadio Mane secured all three points for Jurgen Klopp.

The German will be pleased to see his new signings, Naby Keita and Alisson Becker, look good in their first Premier League away game. Klopp decided against using Xherdan Shaqiri and £40m signing Fabinho didn’t feature in the squad. The Reds will look even better when they’ve settled into life on Merseyside.

With the window closed until January, Liverpool should keep a close eye on Wolfsburg forward – Wout Weghorst. Valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, the Dutchman joined the Bundesliga outfit in the summer for just £9m after a sensational season with AZ Alkmaar. Weghorst netted an incredible 18 league goals and registered six assists for his team-mates.

The 26-year-old admitted to the Dutch outlet Telegraaf that he dreams of playing for Liverpool and believes the opportunity will come his way if he continues his impressive form. It remains to be seen whether the striker can cope with the increased level of competition in Germany. A host of forwards who scored for fun in the Eredivisie, failed after making the switch to England so Liverpool should be cautious.

However, if his impressive goalscoring record continues, Klopp should make his wish come true and bring him to Anfield.
