Liverpool’s £13.5m-rated outcast should be Wolves’ transfer priority this summer

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans in the Transfer Tavern cannot wait for the new season to begin following a terrific 2017/18 campaign.

Wolves were crowned Championship champions which secured them promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2012. They will welcome Everton to Molineux on the opening day of the season on August 11. By that time, the transfer window will be closed due to the latest set of rule changes.

Nuno Espirito Santo is leaving no business until the last minute. The Portuguese has already completed permanent transfers for Diogo Jota and Willy Boly as well as signing Benik Afobe before instantly loaning him to Stoke. Afobe’s departure leaves Wolves short on numbers in attack meaning a new striker may still be recruited.

The newly-promoted side should task a risk and sign Daniel Sturridge from Liverpool. Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the former England international has failed to break into the first-team under Jurgen Klopp after struggling for form and fitness. He left Liverpool on loan to West Brom in January but struggled to make an impact for the Baggies.

A change of scenery could be just what he needs to discover the form that made him one of the deadliest forwards in the Premier League. Sturridge is still only 28-years-old, he is nowhere near finished and is approaching the prime of his career.

Reports suggest the former Chelsea man will be available for just £15m. It would be a risky signing given his injury history, but if Wolves can get him firing, they won’t have to worry about relegation.
