Liverpool head into a critical Champions League clash with FC Basel tonight knowing only a win will be enough to send the Reds through to the last sixteen stage.
Whilst their Premier League and European campaigns have been underwhelming to say the least so far this season, Brendan Rodgers and his side are fortunate they find themselves in the position where a home win will take them through to the knockout phase.
Sounds simple enough? But a look at the recent history books suggests it will be anything but, not only due to Liverpool’s poor form this season and the fact that FC Basel come into the game in fine form but the fact Anfield has been the venue for some of the most dramatic games in the competitions’ illustrious history.
The positive for Liverpool however is that on most of those occasions, the Reds have been the side that has come out on top.
Anyone looking for inspiration ahead of what is sure to be a tense but hopefully special night at Anfield should look at five of the most special Champions League night’s at Anfield from recent times.
