Liverpool must be feeling pretty pleased with how things are as they head into the international break! Sitting top of the Premier League and in with a chance of reaching the Champions League semi-finals once again this season really show things are clicking for Jurgen Klopp and his Anfield squad.
However, it appears this could be the final season at the top-flight outfit for one of their men as he could be on the verge of sealing a summer departure with a one-way ticket to Italy.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Independent, Alberto Moreno is thought to be close to agreeing to a pre-contract with Lazio.
The left-back’s current deal at Liverpool is set to expire in the summer and has decided against extending his stay with the club as he continues to remain out of favour with Klopp.
Moreno’s departure would have been seen coming a long time ago as he has failed to make a real impact during his five years at Anfield following Brendan Rodgers decision to sign him for £16.2million (Transfermarkt) from Sevilla.
The Spaniard started well, however, he was susceptible to a number of mistakes at times and there were a number of questions raised about his ability to defend at times and has earned himself some criticism from those at Liverpool for his performances in games.
The emergence of Andy Robertson effectively ended any hopes of returning to the first-team, whilst he has not even been given an opportunity to play when the Scotland international has been injured with James Milner having filled in at times.
Having made just five appearances all season, a move to Lazio could be the change of scenery that Moreno needs to reinvent himself and his career, although he will have plenty of competition in Rome as well. The Serie A outfit already have Senad Lulic as their main option, whilst the likes of Jordan Lukaku and Riza Durmisi could have something to say about his potential arrival.
Whether a move to the Italian outfit happens remains to be seen, but what appears to be certain is that the 26-year-old will not be a Liverpool player beyond the summer and fans are unlikely to be too disappointed to see him go.
