First a Dane, now a Swede – there could be a scandinavian revolution in progress at Anfield, with 24 year Swedish attacker Ola Toivonen emerging as a target of Roy Hodgson. Still relatively unknown on these shores, he sounds like the sort of player who could bag thirty goals a season on Championship Manager yet is unremarkable in real life.
Evidently this is not the case, and after Hodgson watched him score in a 3-0 win over Scotland, Liverpool are allegedly plotting a 5m move for the striker who can also play as an attacking midfielder.
During his time at PSV, Toivonen scored 24 goals in 49 appearances, and was a goal machine at international youth level. As of yet, it is too early to tell whether he is ready to make the decisive step up and play in one of Europe’s major leagues.
From what yours truly has seen (after doing some research), he doesn’t look half bad, but only time will tell if he truly is the man who jump-starts Hodgson’s Anfield reign with a resounding bang… watch this space.
