Liverpool will be eagerly awaiting the Champions League draw on Friday to see who their next opponents are in the competition as they look to go one better than they did last season. All will remember Loris Karius’ howlers in the final and will be thankful that he is not involved in the tournament this year.
And, things have not got any better for the German shot-stopper during his time with Besiktas, although it appears another club could be prepared to hand him a lifeline.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Hurriyet, Olympiacos are understood to be keen on bringing Karius to Athens as they are currently unhappy with their own goalkeeping options.
It is claimed that Evangelos Marinakis, who is the President of the Greek outfit – and of Nottingham Forest – will look to use his relationship with the Besiktas chief (Firket Orman) to try and get a deal across the line.
Things really have not gone down well for Karius following that horror night in Kiev last season as errors continue to haunt him during his time in Istanbul, which has left many at the club unimpressed with his performances and searching for potential replacements.
Should Besiktas look to cancel their two-year loan deal in the summer, a move to Greece would not necessarily be a bad thing for the German shot-stopper.
The 25-year-old’s career at Liverpool is almost certainly over with Alisson excelling at Anfield, so a move to Olympiacos could be something that he uses as a way to potentially reinvent himself and save his career.
However, a move is only likely to be possible if the Turkish outfit find themselves a replacement, although the Premier League giants are unlikely to stand in his way.
