Disappointing news has reached us in the Football Transfer Tavern late last night as the winter transfer window slammed shut.
Sky Sports reported that Liverpool failed in their bid to sign Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka on transfer deadline day.
Just when it looked likely that the Reds were closing in on the last-ditch acquisition, hopes were dashed with punters leaving in their droves as the news filtered through.
It was thought that the winger, who can play on either flank or down the middle, had a medical ahead of a proposed move to Anfield with personal terms agreed that would have seen him joining the club on a four-and-a-half year deal.
Reds managing director Ian Ayre had even travelled to Ukraine to help facilitate the proposed £15 million transfer, but it appears that he was unable to convince Dnipro multi-billionaire president Ihor Kolomoysky to sell his star player.
The stumbling block in the transfer appears to have been the fact that club’s have not been able to agree a fee to secure the transfer before the 11pm.
That will leave boss Brendan Rodgers even more frustrated after earlier seeing Mohamed Salah rejected interest from the Reds to join Chelsea.
Should Liverpool have met the asking price for the Ukraine international? Let us know your thoughts below.
