Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side kick off 2018 with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Swansea City on Tuesday, thus keeping the pressure on fourth place Liverpool in the Premier League table.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash in South Wales off the back of impressive wins over Burnley and Southampton, results which saw them head into the New Year in sixth place in the table, and four points adrift of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. And although the Merseyside giants increased that lead to seven with victory at Burnley on Monday, Spurs reduced the gap back down to four as goals from Fernando Llorente and Dele Alli sealed a routine 2-0 success for the North London side, in turn securing their 12th league win of the campaign.
Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), which suggests that Italian giants Inter Milan are eyeing up a loan move for Erik Lamela this month.
The 25-year-old missed well over a year of action due to a hip injury and only returned to Pochettino’s first team in their 2-1 defeat at Leicester City back in November, before making his first start upon return from injury in their 2-0 success over Brighton a few weeks later.
And although the Argentina international also started the win over Swansea on Tuesday, it remains to be seen whether he is able to command first team football in the coming months, and recent reports suggest that Inter Milan feel they can do just that as they are reportedly seeking to bring him to the San Siro.
And with the club’s technical director Walter Sabatini the man who brought Lamela to Roma back in 2011 from River Plate, they may feel confident of securing a move for the 25-year-old winger.
Landlord’s verdict: Tottenham fans in the Tavern have been delighted to see winger Erik Lamela make a return to first team action in the last six weeks or so, following on from a year out with a hip injury.
The 25-year-old has made two starts and six substitute appearances in Spurs’ last eight Premier League matches to suggest that he’s firmly in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, but Inter Milan reportedly feel that they can potentially offer him more football in the second half of the campaign.
As such, a loan move could be in the offing for the Argentina international this month, but whether Tottenham boss Pochettino is willing to sanction such deal is highly questionable.
