Loan Watch: Chelsea’s Abdul Baba Rahman, Lucas Piazon and Mario Pasalic updates

In our Chelsea Loan Watch feature, the Transfer Tavern takes a look at how a selection of players from a particular club are doing whilst they are away from their home and provide a brief update regarding their progress.

Abdul Baba Rahman

Perhaps a somewhat forgotten footballer on Chelsea’s books, Abdul Baba Rahman has been given the opportunity to showcase what he can bring to the football pitch with a loan spell at Real Mallorca.

Having only made 23 appearances for the Blues since his alleged £14m to £21.7m move from FC Augsburg in 2015, the Ghana international has had to make do with a number of loan spells away from Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old left-back made his debut for Mallorca in their recent encounter with Athletic Bilbao as he played the whole game and helped them keep a clean sheet in what turned into a scoreless draw (Transfermarkt).

Lucas Piazon

Lucas Piazon is another individual in SW6 that appears to spend more time away from his parent club than he does with them, despite being Chelsea’s longest-serving player.

The 25-year-old Brazilian is no stranger to spending time out on loan, having had more clubs than most ever have throughout their career as he has had spells at the likes of Fulham, Reading, Vitesse Arnhem, Malaga and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The attacker is now plying his trade at Rio Ave in Portugal and has since made just one appearance for Carlos Carvalhal’s side, although he was unable to prevent them from losing 4-2 to Tondela (Transfermarkt).

Mario Pasalic

Mario Pasalic is yet to play for Chelsea, despite being at the club since 2014 (Daily Mail) as he appeared to show plenty of promise whilst playing for Croatian outfit Hajduk Split.

He spent last season on loan with Atalanta in the Serie A and has since stayed there for the current campaign as well. He has gone on to make 45 appearances for the Italian outfit, scoring eight goals and providing his team-mates with a further seven assists (Transfermarkt).

Having featured in all three Serie A matches so far, the 24-year-old Croatia international has clocked up 209 minutes and has contributed with one assist as Atalanta have a record of two wins and one defeat.
