Long-term absentee ‘expected’ to return to the squad for Tottenham against Real Madrid – report

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to perform against Real Madrid this evening. The pub is already packed with hopeful Spurs fans that are expecting the best against the Spanish giants, though they recognise that it is not going to be easy. Though Real Madrid’s La Liga form has been mixed, Los Blancos are undoubtedly a top side, and they’re amongst the favourites to win the competition this season.

Fortunately, though, Tottenham are in a good position ahead of the game with regards to their league form, and it appears as though they’re set to receive a massive boost for the game too. According to the Times, the duo of Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose are both ‘expected’ to be involved this evening from the bench, giving Mauricio Pochettino a wealth of options to call upon if the fixture is not going his way.

Of course, in an ideal world, he’d likely be keen to avoid utilising either of them, but the knowledge that they are available in some form will be a boost for the Lilywhites. The fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting them to travel as they continue to return to fitness, but it appears as though their return is even closer than most would expect.

This is particularly important for Tottenham given that Ben Davies is expected to miss the game, with Danny Rose potentially in with a chance of getting some minutes if Tottenham need some defensive solidity towards the end of the game.

It’s going to be very tough for Tottenham, but these returns will be key.

Landlord’s Verdict

Danny Rose has been out since the mid-point of last season, and so his return could not come soon enough. Likewise, though Dembele’s injury problems have given rise to Harry Winks, the Belgian is a valued asset under Mauricio Pochettino.

Will they start? It’s very unlikely, but they could have an impact if Tottenham need that boost towards the end of the game.
