The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments made by their versatile defensive midfielder, Eric Dier. In an exclusive interview for the Tottenham Hotspur website, the England international claimed that he wants to improve a lot more and believes he can reach a much higher standard.

Eric Dier has been a regular starter for Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino since the 2014/15 season when he scored on his debut against West Ham at Upton Park. That year saw Dier deployed as a centre-back and a right-back although he’s since made the transition into one of the Premier League’s best holding midfielders. The 24-year-old’s ability to screen the back four, allowing full-backs to bomb on, and cover the gaps has been key to Spurs style of football over the last few years.
Whilst most Spurs fans will be excited to see that Dier believes he’s got another level to reach, some fans aren’t convinced by his abilities. Dier has been singled out before on occasions for failing to track back after darting upfield and has also been accused of falling asleep in big games. For the most part, Dier is a reliable professional who the club should look to keep at all costs plus at the age of just 24 there’s definitely space for the combative midfielder to improve his game.

This is what we want to hear from our young players. There is always room for improvement. Remember there will always be someone trying to prove they are better than you. COYS

Start tracking back from midfield. Juventus, Liverpool and Utd recent games as examples.

Hopefully that will be with us. I know Eric splits opinion amongst a lot of #THFC fans but I’m not sure what they want from him? MoPo picks him to do a particular job and he does it superbly. Shown his leadership qualities with England and a future Spurs skipper for me. #COYS

He isn't wrong, his performance this season dosnt argue with this comment – needs to give his head a wobble sometimes and be simple
