Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are making their opinions heard on former Magpie, Jermaine Jenas, after his comments that levels at Newcastle would drop after international breaks and that the levels of training and intensity were higher with England than with the Tyneside club.
Jenas spent three and a half years at St James Park between January 2002 and summer 2005. During his time at Newcastle, Jenas made 142 appearances and scored 10 goals before leaving to join Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £13.5 million.
"I didn't achieve what I set out to achieve."
"I don't blame anybody, I look at myself, I do live with regrets…"

Jenas’ comments, made on BT Sport, were in response to questions regarding his time with England as a young central midfielder. The former Tottenham, QPR and Nottingham Forest man claimed that he felt he was unlucky with the generation he was born in, with players like Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard picked ahead of the Nottingham born midfielder for the international side.
However, Newcastle fans have taken offence at comments made about the levels of Newcastle United, pointing out that Alan Shearer, Nobby Solano and Gary Speed didn’t have the same struggles adapting to international football and have hit out at Jenas claiming it was down to the player’s attitude and mentality as to why he struggled.

Just caught up with Jenas' #nufc comments.Perfect example of spoilt, self-serving, egotistical young players at club at time who ducked responsibility and looked to blame others. None will be remembered fondly/provoke kind of reaction John Beresford did from away fans yesterday

Jermaine Jenas showing the immaturity that he displayed while under performing at #nufc . Big opinion of himself!

So Newcastle weren't on @jjenas8 level when he returned from England duty?
You're 1st 3 seasons with #NUFC you finished
apparently that's not good enough for the great jermaine jenas tho! you were a bang average player in (at the time) a good team! IDIOT! https://t.co/5ePkZqUn4y

That 2001-2004 #NUFC side was a personal favourite of mine. I was only 5-6 during the 'Entertainers' period. Some unbelievable players that I look back with fond memories. Jenas is not one of those. Scored a canny goal against Man Utd. That was about it.

Jenas was carried by far superior players, such as Gary Speed. Wasn't fit to lace his boots. He wouldn't make anyone's all time Toon 11 except his own. #NUFC

Lost a lot of respect for Jenas after this. That Newcastle team that was 'not up to his level' was better than the Spurs one he went to. Shearer, Speed, Solano, Robert to name a few. Champions League and UEFA Cup football too. Baffling… https://t.co/bOoy4RYWEI
