The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern would be forgiven for not knowing the name Conor Masterson. The 19-year-old centre-half was given a place on the bench yesterday as Liverpool put Manchester City to the sword 3-0 at Anfield in yet another famous European night on Merseyside. Masterson was an unused substitute on the night, but the experience of being in the squad for such a big occasion will no doubt be useful for the defender.

Three goals in just 19 minutes from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane had Pep Guardiola’s side on the ropes as the clubs went in at half-time. The scoreline remained at 3-0 and the Citizens can count themselves lucky that it wasn’t more as Liverpool came out and played as if they had a point to prove, with the majority of pundits writing off the Merseysiders in favour of Guardiola’s Manchester juggernaut.
The Liverpool fans, whilst obviously delighted with the result, were also impressed with young Conor Masterson. The Irishman gave a good account of himself in an interview after the game despite not making it off the bench and the fans are touting him to be the club’s next academy grown star, following in the steps of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher as those who have made the progression from the development sides into the first team.

Haven't seem him play but to be chosen to be on the bench is a feat for this young man.
