Newcastle United striker Peter Lovenkrands is on the radar of Championship promotion hopefuls Cardiff City.
The Welsh club are apparently lining up a loan move for the 32 year old Dane who is down the pecking order at Newcastle behind Demba Ba, Papa Cisse, and Shola Ameobi.
Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is looking to recruit another forward as he prepares for a final push at the Premier League.
Lovenkrands seems to be his main target and with a lack of first team opportunities and given the fact his Newcastle contract is due to expire in May it seems likely Newcastle would accept any loan offer from Cardiff.
The 32 year old Dane enjoyed a successful stint in the Championship with Newcastle United scoring 13 goals in 29 matches. It’s that sort of cutting edge and track record Malky Mackay will be looking for in order to beat the likes of Southampton, West Ham, and Birmingham in the race to the Premier League.
Mackay and Pardew are close pals following their time together at West Ham, it is this relationship that may carry through any deal. Cardiff already have Newcastle midfielder Haris Vuckic on a 1-month loan deal.
Any deal involving Lovenkrands may revive Robert Earnshaw’s proposed move to the MLS.
Lovenkrands, although 32, still has something to offer and at Championship level I think this could be a good coup for Cardiff.
Although he would be a good addition to the squad, I don’t feel as though he would be a player which would define a season. Cardiff have been flirting with promotion for the last few seasons put have always fell at the final hurdle.
Mackay and the Cardiff faithful will be hoping Lovenkrands could be the man to change their recent fortunes, but a word of caution, these loan deals can swing either way.
