It was far from the perfect night for Arsenal against Man Utd, with the Gunners eventually drawing 2-2 with Jose Mourinho’s team. For the most part, Unai Emery’s team played well, but in the end, they were unable to snatch three points from a very resolute side.
There were many positives to take away from the game, though. It’s another fixture against a top team in which the Gunners have avoided defeat, whilst many individual performances were also outstanding.
Undeniably, one of the stars of the show was, once again, Lucas Torreira. He was coming off the back of a tremendous performance against Tottenham, in which he was named Man of the Match, having picked up a goal and dominated the Lilywhites from the midfield.
So, he had a lot to live up to, and he most certainly did.
The Uruguayan played the full 90 minutes for Arsenal, and he was a star from beginning to end. With 62 passes, one of which led to an assist, the 22-year-old was once again able to prove his worth going forward. Not to mention, with 72 touches, it’s clear that he was involved in the game from beginning to end.
He wasn’t famed for his passing prior to his move to the Emirates, but that side of his game has absolutely shone. In fact, he achieved a passing accuracy of over 90% against the Red Devils, and that’s a testament to his ability of being able to control games.
Stats don’t tell the whole story, though. Torreira was here, there and everywhere for the Gunners, and not for the first time this season. Contributing at either end of the field and offering tremendous support to his teammates, it’s no wonder why Unai Emery has begun to call on him so regularly.
He’s exactly what Arsenal have lacked over the last couple of years, and he’s proven his worth yet again.
