Everton fans will be seething from the weekend as they watched their side put in another dismal display at the weekend. The pressure will be building on Marco Silva at Goodison Park as there is unrest with the way his team are currently performing.
The Premier League outfit will need to make additions in the summer transfer window, however, it appears they missed out on one man in January that could have been vital in the final stages of the current campaign.
What’s the News?
According to a report by France Football, Olympique de Lyonnais’ Lucas Tousart allegedly turned down the chance of heading to Everton.
It is claimed the £18million-rated defensive midfielder (Transfermarkt) was keen on staying with the club, which led to Idrissa Gana Gueye remaining at Goodison Park amid the interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
As highlighted in their defeat to Newcastle United, Everton fans will be desperate to see the club add reinforcements to their squad, with defensive-minded men surely a priority in Merseyside.
Tousart could have been ideal for Silva’s side in the winter, as the midfielder is a hardworking and tenacious midfielder that has an excellent ability to pick out a pass.
The 21-year-old, who had fallen out of favour at times with Lyon, is also a player who can win the ball and has the skill to distribute the ball quickly to help start attacks from deep areas on the pitch, whilst he is not shy of getting forward either.
Everton have had a number of issues when it comes to defending set-pieces as well, which is something Tousart could have helped with, as he has a commanding presence in the air and may have been able to finally help them keep the ball out of the net.
With questions remaining around Gueye and his future at the club in the summer likely to come to fruition, the Toffees should look to make a return for him as he has all the ingredients to replace the Senegal international on a long-term basis.
Everton fans, do you think Tousart would be the ideal long-term replacement for Gueye? Join in with the discussion by sharing your thoughts with us below.
