Luiz or Cahill? One of these defenders simply must be sold by Chelsea this summer

There’s a big summer coming up for Manchester United as they seek to close the gap on runaway Premier League leaders and rivals Manchester City.

The summer will be a big and important time for the London club as they seek to have an impressive transfer window and put behind them what have been on the whole, pretty poor windows during the last 18 months.

Manager Conte will be looking to get some more control over the players he brings in, but here in the Tavern, our landlord thinks that Conte needs to be looking at his current squad and assessing who he needs to move out of the club and onto pastures new.

Chelsea have had defensive issues this term, and this puts under the spotlight the likes of Gary Cahill and David Luiz, who could well be vying with each other to even keep their spot at the Bridge next season.

Both defenders have had average campaigns to say the least. Cahill has looked somewhat lost without old mate John Terry alongside him, while Luiz has encountered injury problems and seems to have fallen out of favour with Conte at the same time.

It will be interesting to see how Conte views his two defenders, and if he feels replacements are needed. Both look like they are coming to the end of their shelf life, but for Chelsea to replace two experienced pros like Luiz and Cahill, they will have to spend some serious cash.
