Want-away Tottenham star Luka Modric has no made effort to keep his ambitions to move to Real Madrid a secret, with the Croatian repeatedly telling new boss Villas-Boas of his ambitions to move to the La Liga champions.
But his new move has caused fury among the heirarchy at Spurs as his new stunt could see a dramatic stand-off between the Spurs playmakers and directors of the club.
According to the Daily Mail, Luka Modric failed to turn up as the squad flew to the US to begin their pre-season tour, which has led to many questions about his future.
Even though Modric’s failure to turn up for pre-season training has resulted in the board fining him his wage of £17,000 per day everytime he is absent, I think it would be naive to assume that Modric’s “rebellious” actions were implemented without any consultation from the board regarding the pre-season tour.
Logically, if Luka Modric has openly told AVB and the board of his plans to leave the club, it would be risky for Spurs to play the midfielder in case of any injuries which may occur. As well as putting the morale of the team into threat, there would be no point of Villas-Boas even playing him if he won’t be at White Hart Lane next season, and instead should use this opporunity to play the squad members who are desperate to begin playing for the club again come the start of next season.
Whilst I am not defending Luka for missing training sessions, all I’m saying is maybe this stunt could work in favour of both parties. With Modric obviously showing his desire to leave the North London club, it’s obvious that Levy and the board need to sell their disruptive prospect very quickly in order to purchase his replacement before next season begins.
