According to the Manchester Evening News, Luke Shaw’s social media posts suggest that he is determined to remain at Old Trafford this season and fight for his place.

Given all that has gone before in Shaw’s time with the Red Devils though, he would probably be better served by pushing for a move to a new club where he could begin to get his career back on track.

According to the Express, reporting via journalist Duncan Castles, Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Juventus’ left-back, Alex Sandro, ahead of a transfer that would bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford.

This news ought to come as a blow to Luke Shaw and cause him to reconsider his commitment to the Manchester giants.

The Breakdown

If Sandro were to join up with Jose Mourinho’s squad this summer, then that would push Luke Shaw even further down the pecking order. That is assuming that Ashley Young will return from his post-World Cup holiday to become the first choice back up option for Sandro.

At 23-years-old, and without having played a full season’s worth of football since his final campaign with Southampton in 2013/14, Luke Shaw can’t afford to be anything other than first choice anymore.

Of course, much of his lack of football must be attributed to his woeful injury record. It’s no secret though that Mourinho has been regularly critical of his performances for United when he has been available.

If Luke Shaw is to resurrect his career, and force his way into Gareth Southgate’s England plans, then he needs a fresh start. One he won’t get by sticking around to fight for his place at Old Trafford.
