The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story in The Daily Mail that claims Riyad Mahrez could be on his way to The Etihad this summer, although City’s on-loan winger, Patrick Roberts could be key to the deal. Roberts has been highly successful in Glasgow and now he could be set to put his talents to the test in the Premier League for The Foxes next year.

Manchester City have been linked with pretty much every winger under the sun in the last few weeks. Pep Guardiola reportedly wants to bolster his wide options to reduce the pressure he’s placed on Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling this season. The Spaniard wants to retain the Premier League title and will need to make signings to do that as every other top club in the league is aiming to usurp the Citizens as champions.
Riyad Mahrez would no doubt be a superb signing for any top European club, although under the guidance and tutelage of Guardiola the Algerian could make the jump to becoming one of the world’s best players. The 27-year-old came into the spotlight in the 2015/16 season when Leicester City won the Premier League. Mahrez won the player of the year award that season and put a target on his back as club’s jumped to try and secure his signature. Whilst Leicester have so far been able to hold off interest in him, it seems unlikely that he’s stay put this summer.

I’d rather have Roberts than waste money on Mahrez. Exactly like the Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barclay debacle at Chelsea. Similar players, yet one is already ours. Pep could do wonders with Roberts I bet.
