Tottenham fans are looking downcast here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Marca claim that Angel Di Maria is refusing to be part of any deal that would bring Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
Florentino Perez is keen to get a money plus player deal agreed with Daniel Levy and has offered winger Di Maria as part of any such agreement.
Whilst Spurs were mulling over that offer, the winger himself made it very clear to the Real Madrid chief that he would not be willing to move to White Hart Lane under any circumstances.
Di Maria has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid all summer and would do a very similar job for Spurs should they replace Bale with the Argentine, yet Di Maria is fully aware that there is a lack of Champions League football on offer and given the fact that it is World Cup year, that is not something he is willing to take a chance on.
Tottenham are now left with two options – they can either push to land Spanish Under-21 international forward Alvaro Morata, who they rate highly and are very interested in bringing to the club, yet would face a great deal of opposition from not only Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid, but also Morata himself who sees his future at the club.
The second option is to take left back Fabio Coentrao who certainly seems keen to leave Real Madrid yet is a less appealing option to Andre Villas Boas.
The Spanish press are also whispering that young forward Jese Rodriguez is also on the radar of Daniel Levy and Real Madrid would certainly be less opposed to allowing Jese to leave (with a buy back option of course) than they would of Morata who is considered to be much more of a finished article.
