The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were baffled when the Gunners signed Yaya Sanogo…
Signed from obscurity, his name was not a recognisable one amongst the fans in the Transfer Tavern, and in truth, several years later, most fans would have been happier if that was still the case.
Undoubtedly one of Arsene Wenger’s most disappointing signings ever, Sanogo had very little impact at the Emirates throughout the course of his tenure, rarely impressing anyone in the pub.
Indeed, bar a few starts – many of which came out of need, rather than want – Sanogo was, for the most part, a periphery figure under Wenger, with the Frenchman seemingly quickly realising that it was a mistake to sign him.
Fortunately for Wenger, though, the mistake can now be put behind him – with Arsenal confirming that the striker has been released this summer upon the expiry of his deal at the Emirates.
Unsurprisingly, this has generated quite the response amongst the Arsenal fans on Twitter, with one fan even boldly suggesting that Kylian Mbappe might replace him. It would certainly be an upgrade for the Gunners!

So glad Sanogo has been released, was stealing a huge living. Although seeing him score 4 goals at The Emirates Cup was hilarious tbf! #AFC
