According to a recent report from The Sun, Tottenham have opened discussions with Bordeaux regarding a move for Malcom on the back of his brilliant season in Ligue 1.

With Mauricio Pochettino in the hunt for a first Tottenham trophy, there's no doubt that the club will be scouting the market for quality players this summer who could help the Argentinian make a breakthrough next season.

Targeting Malcom certainly represents a wise place to start as his form in France last season illuminated his enormous potential.

The Brazilian managed to notch 12 goals and provide 7 assists from 35 appearances, prompting interest from some of Europe's top clubs in the process.

Time will tell whether spurs are able to fend off interest from rival clubs to secure Malcom's signature, but, if they are successful in their pursuit, the door could be open for Newcastle to sign Erik Lamela.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for Andros Townsend in recent weeks with Matt Ritchie looking likely to leave for Stoke City, but if Malcom completes a switch to North London then Rafa Benitez should turn his attention towards Lamela.

On the evidence of his career at Tottenham there's no doubt that Lamela could become a fan-favourite at St James' Park. A tenacious talent by nature, Lamela has consistently worked hard for Spurs in the past three seasons whilst predominantly operating on the right-wing.

Like Ritchie, Lamela is a left-footed player who prefers to cut inside from the right wing, but he is also capable of playing in a number ten role.

His quality and versatility make him an ideal replacement for Ritchie next season, so Newcastle should keep a close eye on the Malcom situation and explore the possibility of bringing Lamela to the club this summer if Bordeaux's crown jewel eventually makes the switch.
