The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted by fresh reports which link their club with a move for Malcom this summer, although they are wondering how exactly he will fit into the team with both Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura battling for a place on the right-wing.

The Breakdown

According to a recent report from The Sun, reports in France claim that Tottenham have opened discussions with Bordeaux regarding a move for the highly-regarded Malcom. Following a season in which he bagged 12 goals and provided 7 appearances from 35 Ligue 1 appearances, the Brazilian has become one of the hottest properties in Europe.

Since moving to France in January 2016 Malcom has blossomed into an electric wide man with the speed, confidence and flair to take on his opposite number and create opportunities in the final-third.

At just 21-year-of-age Malcom has huge potential to become a star of European football in the coming years, and under a manager of Pochettino's expertise he would be well-placed to realise the full extent of that potential.

On paper, it's a fantastic move for all parties concerned, but Erik Lamela might not be too pleased by the acquisition. The Argentine international returned to first-team football last season following a lengthy hip injury and demonstrated his exemplary passion and work-rate on a regular basis to keep Moura out of the team for the majority of the campaign.

However, Moura was desperately short of match fitness himself after being frozen out at PSG before he made the switch to Tottenham, so his lack of opportunity was hardly surprising given the high standard of fitness Pochettino notoriously demands from his players.

With a full pre-season under his belt Moura should be ready to step into the first-team on a regular basis next season and, considering the level of quality he showed during a handful of cameo appearances last season, the Tottenham supporters could be in for a treat.

The worry for Lamela is that Pochettino is unlikely to need three right-wingers within his squad next season, so clearly something has to budge. With that in mind, Tottenham's manager could be open to the possibility of selling Lamela in order to make room for Malcom.

It's a prospect which would certainly disappoint Tottenham supporters who admire his tenacity, but in the interests of progress, it should be a wise move for the club if Malcom eventually agrees to move to North London.
