The Manchester City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern were chanting his name last year; now he is nowhere to be seen!
It has been quite the fall from grace at Manchester City for Yaya Toure.
He has been a constant in the Manchester City first team since his arrival in 2010, consistently making around 30+ appearances over the last 6 Premier League seasons.
However, whilst the arrival of Pep Guardiola brought excitement to many at the Etihad – Toure likely rued the announcement as the day that his Man City career came to an end.
Toure is still yet to make an appearance under Guardiola so far this season, and given the signings that the Spaniard has made over the last few months – that looks unlikely to change.
The circumstances that currently surround Toure were, of course, not unexpected – many of the City fans here in the Tavern were expecting Guardiola and the Ivorian midfielder to butt heads; especially given their previous encounter.
The new City boss and Toure, of course, do have history together; Guardiola unceremoniously dumped Toure from the Barcelona first team when the pair were at the Catalan giants together – which led to his arrival in Manchester.
However, now Guardiola looks set to foresee the departure of the once-Man City everpresent again – with the Ivorian’s contract set to expire at the end of the season; with no new deal in sight.
He added that: ‘He will have many offers from clubs’.
With the countdown to the January transfer window edging ever closer, could Yaya Toure have played his final game in a Manchester City shirt? The confirmation of his impending departure – should he announce that in January – will likely prevent Guardiola from including him thereafter.
Our landlord thinks it would be a shame to see Yaya leave the Premier League, especially given how dominant he has been over the last 6 years – but he can also understand the view of Guardiola.
The Tavern’s bar staff are also in agreement; Yaya Toure simply does not fit Pep Guardiola’s style of play.
Nonetheless, the Manchester City faithful here in the Football Transfer Tavern will no doubt miss what Yaya Toure has provided to the City first team in recent years…
Man City fans – we want to hear from you! Are you disappointed that Yaya might leave? Or is it best for business?
